Me: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Big J: SpongeBob SquarePants!!

The area in front of the stage was already full when we got there, so we settled watching from level 2. The boys enjoyed watching the show and Small J kept asking where is Mr Krabs. Tsk...the effect of watching too much Okto.

This all-new live show includes SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward and that evil Plankton. The adventure sets sail as SpongeBob prepares to celebrate the Krabby Patty and everyone is invited to the party! There’ll be loads of sea-antics and you’ll even get to do the Krabby Patty Dance!

At the end of the show, we had the chance to take a photo with SpongeBob and friends. Small J was really cute because he said hello and bye to them with much enthusiasm.

Get Busy with BusyTotsBags

Friday, 4 December 2015

We are really into busy bags. These bags are great time savers to keep the kids busy and entertained while I get myself busy with cooking, laundry and other housework.

From the past busy bag exchanges (link), I have collected one big box of busy bags for the boys. In fact, we have not tried out all of them yet. Some were not at the boys' level yet while some are still not in rotation.

Everything is chucked here. I'm still thinking how to sort these so it is easier to take out what I need

The only downside with these busy bags is they require time to make. That's the reason why I have not been taking part in more busy bags exchanges. It is too time consuming to make 10+ bags for the exchange. For some other moms, they might feel that they are not crafty enough to make these.

That's when I got to know about BusyTotsBags.

BusyTotsBags carries a wide variety of activities suitable for young children, including practical life, sensorial, language, maths, etc. Since Christmas is coming soon, they are also offering activities with a Christmas theme. The products are not just for simple playing, there are also educational elements, such as colour, numbers or letters recognition and fine motor skills. What's better than learning while playing right?

I was very excited when BusyTotsBags offer me a $50 credit to try out some of their products. I managed to get 6 items, which means each item is for less than $10! Still pretty reasonable. Let me show you what I have gotten for the boys.

The package came properly wrapped with bubble wrap to prevent damages to the items inside.

Each activity is individually packed in a ziplock bag. If there are smaller pieces for that activity, these will be packed in a smaller bag inside the big bag so there will not be many pieces 'flying' around.

Tree of the Numbers & Apples

Parent can pick out a number, stick it on the trunk of the tree and ask the child to stick the corresponding number of apples on the tree. The pieces are all attached with velcro and this serves as a good fine motor and hand-eye coordination practice as the child tries to stick and remove the pieces.

Small J can't recognise numbers yet. But he's happily sticking all the apples onto the tree and removing them again. We count together as he sticks them and count down as he removes them. For Big J, we tried to do simple addition and subtraction.

Thread the Holey Ball

This is one of Small J's favourite. The ball has lots of holes which the child can thread the pipecleaners through. Especially good for fine motor and hand-eye coordination.

The ends of the pipecleaners are quite sharp but this is easily solved by twisting down the ends of the pipecleaners so that it is not so sharp. We usually bring this along when we are out to keep them entertained while waiting.

Look Mummy, a spider!

Mother Hen

The eggs are attached with snap buttons. The child can also practice buttoning the circles onto the hen. These are actually good practice for practical life-skills.

I pretty much left it to the boys to explore this by themselves. It is amazing to see them playing on this with much concentration.

Ladybird, Ladybird!

Similar to the Mother Hen, this ladybird also has buttons for working on buttoning skills. It also has a zip in the middle.

The boys enjoyed zipping and unzipping the ladybird and Small J even played peekaboo with it. We did colour matching and counting as they tried to button the felt pieces to the Ladybird.

Button-Up! Shirt

The shirt and buttons are made of wood. This requires a good skill in threading the buttons onto the shirt.

The boys couldn't really do it and are more interested in threading the buttons onto the shoelace. I like it that the lace is not those super long ones, so this is more manageable for little hands. The wood is also smooth without any wood splinters.

Geoboard Shape Fun!

I got this because I wanted Big J to form shapes or letters on the geoboard. But it is too difficult for him. He is scared that the bands will break as he stretches them. So what I did is to form the shapes and ask them to guess what it is.

The geoboard comes with a set of cards which has suggested shapes that the child can form on the board. Having made many cards before, I, however, feel that the cards can be better improved. The corners can be cut by a corner cutter so that it looks more uniform. The laminate around the card can also be more evenly cut. This is not a big issue for those who are not so particular about the look of the cards.

On the overall, I am very pleased with the items. The felts used are of good quality and quick thick. The sewing is also done very nicely with no loose ends and they can withstand the rough handling from the boys.

Christmas is around the corner. If you are still thinking of what to get, these are great as a Christmas gift for young children. Just swap out the zip lock bag for a better looking box or bag and it will make a great gift.

Now is the best time to get these as BusyTotsBags is offfering a 10% discount with every $40 order. Key in the code 'JsChristmas' in the discount code during checkout to enjoy the offer! Offer ends 25 December 2015.
